Betsy Philena Johnson (also known as Bessie) was born in Racine Co., IA in 1846. She was taken to Washington Prairie, IA by her parents, Nelson and Anna Johnson, in 1850 arriving in the Decorah area 2 July.

Betsy married J.E. Cook, an attorney of Independence, IA. Betsy and J. E. Cook had 7 children: Roy A. became an attorney; William Edwards, a portrait artist; Eddie died as a small boy; Nelson E. also died young; Robert J, M.D.; Horace J.; and Florence Elizabeth earned degrees from iowa Umvesity and Columbia.

Betsy Johnson Cook died 21 Mar 1918.

Earl Johnson, son of William and Margaretha (Krey) Cox was born 8 Aug 1919 in Page Co, IA. He was adopted by Nickolai and Alma Johnson. Earl grew up near Ostrander, MN. In the 1940’s he came to Bloomfield Twp. where he was employed at the Carl Marsh farm. He married Lolita Buddenberg 26 May 1949 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA in Chickasaw Co.

Lolita J. Buddenberg, daughter of Melvin and Vera Buddenberg  attended a rural school near her home in Bloomfield Twp. and the Castalia school and graduated from Postville High School in 1949. Earl and Lolita farmed in Bloomfield Twp. and in Clayton Co. They had 5 children: Alan Richard, Lianne Therese, Gerald Melvin, James Earl and Robyn Lee.

Alan Richard  married Kathryn Hageman 7 Jun 1975 at St. Aloysius Church, Calmar, IA. They are dairy farmers in Frankville Twp. on a 140 acre farm where they live. They enjoy bowling and golfing as a hobby. They have 2 daughters: Michele Rene and Amanda Leigh.

Lianne Therese married Kenneth Ryan

19    May 1973 at St. Patrick Church, Waukon, IA. Lianne and Ken live in Port La Voca, TX. Ken is a chemical engineer for the Alcoa Co. in Point Comfort, TX. Kenneth and Lianne have 3 children: Nicholas Patrick,  Wendy Kaylene  and Katherine Joleen.

Gerald Melvin served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1973 to 1977. He married Laurel Recknagel 9 May 1981 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, East Troy, Wl. Jerry works in repair and maintenance in the Trent Tube

Factory in East Troy and Laurie is a registered nurse in a Skilled Care Facility. They live in Burlington, Wl. They have 2 sons: Matthew Wade and Ryan.

James Earl married Traci Sue Lenth at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, IA 28 Jun 1986. They live in High Amana where Jim is Dairy Herdsman for the Amana Colonies. Traci is a Registered Dietitian with the WIC program in Cedar Rapids, IA. They have 2 children: Travis James and Abbey Jo.

Robyn Lee married David Gerleman at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville 19 Jul 1980. They live near Plainfield, IA in their 1860 rural home. Robyn is a Nursing Assistant with a nursing home in Charles City. Dave has been a dairy farmer since their marriage.

Earl died 4 Jan 1972 at his home near Postville. Lolita attended college at NITI and became a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse in the Postville Hospital and as a nurse in the Ossian Hospice. On 5 Aug 1977 Lolita married Oran Engelhardt. Oran was the son of Arno and Hattie Engelhardt. Oran Allan Engelhardt was born 4 Jan 1928 in Clayton Co. and died at his home in Postville 30 Jun 1990.

Ernest and Florence Johnson West Union, Iowa

Ernest John Johnson was born at the West Union Community Hospital to Elmer Alfred and Anna Marie Johnson of West Union, IA. He attended Eldorado and Windsor No. 1 rural schools. He served in the U.S. Army during 1959-1960. He worked for the Bob Falb Implement Company in Elgin, IA until 1966 when he began farming near West Union after purchasing the George and Shirley Olesen farm.

Ernest married Florence Ann Leibold 26 Oct 1963. Florence is the daughter of Hugo and Margaret (Kupka) Leibold and grew up on a farm near Ft. Atkinson, IA. They have 4 children: James Steven, Ann Margaret, Robert Charles and Joseph Ernest.
